Transform Something Old Into Something New, Part V – Making Your Mark . . . Monograms & Symbols

Take a look at the monograms you created last week and choose your best one. Follow these simple steps to creating your own wedding invitations using your new monogram and your Something Old as inspiration.

Modernize your inspiration with shape and color

Modernize your inspiration with shape and color

STEP 1 - After browsing through my Nebiolo type specimen book, I chose some ornaments called Fregio Classico Moderno and redrew them in Illustrator. Next, I simplified them and made them more angular.

STEP 2 – Talk about old world charm, I love the monograms of Imre Reiner! To make my monogram a bit more contemporary, I chose a beautiful typeface called Arthur Cabinet from MyFonts as my base and converted it to outlines. I then filled it with my new ornament.

PartV3STEP 3 – When I saw this cross-stitch alphabet in Märkbok, I immediately thought of Fig Script as the partner typeface.

PartV4STEP 4 - I thought the title frame from the Nebiolo book formed the perfect container for this monogram.

STEP 5 - Finally, I took all of my elements (color, ornament, fonts, etc.) and created these two invitations. The number of possible combinations is endless. In the one on the left, I used the title frame from the Nebiolo book as the container for the monogram. The one on the right uses the same container rotated, for all of the type. I also used one of the ornaments to create the patterned background. This one would look great letterpressed.

There you have it—Something Old Into Something New! On Wednesday, we will put it all together and launch our inaugural WeddingBrand Style Kit.
